A new year and a new website

It’s a new year, and I thought it’s about time I create a website to showcase my photos. Until now I’ve used Flickr, Twitter and my agency site which worked okay but none do a great job of showing off a portfolio. I also intend to starting blogging a bit about events I’ve attended etc.

New Year’s Day saw me making my way to Roots Hall for Southend v Portsmouth in League Two.

I was looking forward to it as I have a bit of a ‘soft spot’ for both sides, having lived in Essex all my life and having spent the past four years at University in Portsmouth and photographing most of their home matches.

However my enthusiasm did dwindle a little while sitting in the pouring rain, with a New Year’s Eve hangover, trying to keep the cameras dry and struggling to get photos out!

Two goals from Ryan Leonard saw Southend come from a goal down to win 2-1.

I completely messed up Portsmouth’s goal celebration, which was right in front of me, due to a very wet lens element (thanks again to the steward at Millwall last week who broke the hood). Therefore, I was quite thankful when Leonard netted the winner with a great goal in the 93rd minute, and the photos became meaningless to the game.

Despite the rain I’m quite pleased with the set, and I had a photo published from the game in the Daily Telegraph (only the Indy left now and I’ve been published in every national paper), which was a nice bonus.

I’m back to Roots Hall again on Saturday for Millwall in the FA Cup where as a West Ham fan, I’m hoping Southend can cause an upset!
